The world powers gave away the chance to safe humanity when China and Russia and most Arab states threw the Palestinians under a bus during a recent vote at the UN. They had a chance to stand against the evil empire (incl. Israel) but chose not to. They fell for the blackmail and their weakness will be exploited to the max. Moral decay will lead to physical decay.
I find your framing interesting. The UN is a pseudo arbiter of international law, as it has civilly criticized the American government for repeated violations of various state’s sovereignties across half a century.
The rules of the UN are for the powers that formed it, and the legitimacy ascribed to the UN Security Council is a bad joke.
Does anybody today believe that a UN pronouncement of condemnation of any state matters to anyone? What has that done for the Palestinian people?
Russia and China are busy trying to actually build an international community that takes sovereignty and human life seriously. They have made their opposition to Western imperialism clear, but they cannot defeat a lawless bully by imitating it. They don’t want WWIII, and they definitely will not accidentally start it.
I disagree on your take on Russia and China. I do not see evidence of any serious attempt to change the course of our world system. I lost that belief. In fact, Russia and China cooperate with Israel way too much to take that thought seriously anymore.
My take is based largely, not solely, on the manner in which both of these governments have responded to provocations from the empire guardians. I think it’s reasonable to suppose that if the empire was faced with similar provocations that it would already have realized the worst fears of many of us, and killed an unprecedented number of humans, and rendered the planet dead.
I think the notion that a moral state or government has the means to lead by virtue of its perceived moral status is a uniquely western bias. The U.S. has spent trillions of dollars to convince its citizens that it has the most moral of intentions despite libraries full of evidence to the contrary.
Israel is self-destructing as is the U.S., and the best evidence of that is the populations inside those two countries that are suffering from shattered illusions. There are more and more everyday.
The population of Israel has been more severely reduced by disenchanted western immigrants who left in droves, than by dead bomb victims. When empires lose the confidence of their citizens, the end is near, and the pain grows greater as the end gets closer.
States can do a lot to jeopardize lives, and jeopardizing and taking lives has been the calling card of America, but when do states rescue the planet? Answer: never!
Changing the world system is a bridge too far, unless you’re the West and you thrive on chaos.
The USSR rescued the Zionist West from the Zionist Nazi threat, and it’s recently come to light that Hitler was enabled and encouraged by the UK and France to invade Czechoslovakia and seize the Sudetenland when publicly they were prevailing upon Czech leaders to exercise restraint toward Germany.
So the problem confronting Russia and China, both governments recognize a pathological system in which perhaps a half billion educated and mostly non threatening people live, and the empire is still a dangerous enemy to have. So I believe that, in this era of instant discovery, where secrets are short lived, there is a real contest of narratives, and the good guys are the ones that are exercising enormous restraint with regard to their acquired enemy that has them in their crosshairs, while the West is displaying its commitment to more death. This is the inner workings of the changing world.
The ultimate problem humans have is that of hierarchy. As long as some have power over others, they will abuse it--power corrupts. The only solution to humanity's woes, the only path forward, the only chance for survival, is to eliminate the power of the few over the many.
I have noticed on several shows currently running, fallout the best example, of how nuclear explosions are something you can outrun or just go down a hole or awhile to avoid.
So called experts, are claiming Carl Sagan was wrong in his calculations of nuclear winter and that it really won't be so bad and nuclear war can be won.
Daniel Ellsberg regretted not exposing the insanity of our nuclear policy when he released the Pentagon papers. He was wary that it would be much harder to do and that he would fail.
He wrote the Doomsday Machine to try to make amends for that mistake. Everyone should read it to face the reality that in no way will humans survive nuclear war. He made it clear, once one nuke is detonated anywhere in the world, we will launch against all our adversaries!! There will be no one, there will be no two, it will not stop until total destruction is reached!!

I agree, but I don’t necessarily link it to Stump/Netanyahoo. They are a natural byproduct of a system so at odds with the transcendent reality outside our window. It may not be them and it may not be Iran that is the catalyst, but the next iteration of them. It could also be them. But someone/something is going to pick them up and use them.
