Genocide Has Always Been Europe's Go-To Response to Resistance - Nothing's Changed
With Gaza's destruction, the "civilized" West reveals its boundless appetite for the blood of resistant natives.
To the Western ruling classes, the extermination of Palestinians is not an atrocity but a fitting reprisal against the audacity of the occupied to resist their colonial tormentors. The very notion of indigenous peoples rising up for self-determination represents an affront to the assumed natural supremacy of white Western powers. How dare the dispossessed fight back after decades of submissively accepting their fate? The West's elites believe brutal dominance is their divine right, so any show of defiance merits the harshest measures to reassert control. In their twisted worldview, the massacre of Palestinians and destruction of their society is a reasonable reaction to contain such insolent uprisings. Dehumanization comes easy when one denies the humanity of entire peoples as a matter of course.
Gaza burns while the world watches. Victims report their agony in real-time as bombs rain down, indiscriminately killing men, women and children. History will not absolve those who sit idly by; all are witness to these atrocities yet some still deny and defend. We see plainly which nations take a moral stand and which cower behind platitudes about the oppressor’s right to "self-defense."
True leadership emerges not from the halls of power in the West but the Global South—those who condemn Israel unequivocally while so-called defenders of democracy and freedom are deafeningly silent. The massacre of innocents unfolds on television screens worldwide, yet Israel's allies remain more outraged by those who dare speak this truth than by the shedding of Palestinian blood itself. No crime, no matter how depraved, elicits more than tepid reproaches for "restraint."
When Israel smeared UNRWA, its staunch backers leaped to defend by cutting off aid, heedless of the consequences for desperate Gazans. Yet mountains of evidence over decades—from UN experts, human rights groups, journalists—that Israel violates international law and commits war crimes, even genocide, draws not even muted criticism. The double standard is astounding.
Arming the executioners cannot stem from ignorance. Western states, such as the Netherlands, the UK, the US and Canada act in full awareness, deliberately hastening the slaughter by sending equipment that will extinguish innocent lives. Amnesty International charges those who arm Israel with "violating the responsibility to prevent genocide and contributing to war crimes."
Why then does the complicity continue? For profit? Political gain? Racist ideologies that value some lives above others? Cowardice and apathy in the face of radical evil? There is no diplomatic way to call out racism. It is time to call a spade a spade.
We ask again—to what end? What do the purveyors of death achieve but their own moral ruination? The rivers of blood flow not just over Gaza but over the credibility of international law and all who fail to uphold it. Israel's backers have torched their reputations in the eyes of hundreds of millions and can never redo the damage. The streets roar with rage from London to Lahore to Tokyo at the hypocrites who preach but do not practice.
Two roads lie ahead: continued complicity in genocide or a new course toward responsible partnership for peace. The choice is clear: act now to cease aiding genocide or be forever damned by history. In Gaza the West's moral depravity stands naked—there is no excuse left for looking away. All that remains is to answer: will you act for peace and law, or stand complicit in the ruination of your very soul?
