I think the “migrant crisis” in Europe has helped smooth the path towards complete dehumanisation of all shades of non-white people, but specifically Muslims. The word migrant has come to depict a lesser human. There is not a flicker of emotion in a European for the 30,000 plus that have drowned in the Mediterranean. It has been criminalised to assist them when they are drowning. Every day on all medium we are bombarded with anti-migrant hysteria. This state sponsored dehumanisation is in the DNA of Europeans now. They are now incapable of pivoting and seeing Palestinians as humans or caring about them. Of course there are exceptions, and I march with them. Some white people have escaped the conditioning of whiteness, its control is not perfect and absolute. I am mixed Asian and white. Not one single of my white relatives mentions the genocide, and pushes back aggressively when challenged even mildly. I was at a huge concern in posh Chiswick a week ago. A black band came on and shouted support for Gaza. There was barely a whimper of a response. They must have been expecting a Kneecap type response. I was shocked at all those middle class young people dancing as in a trance to the music but completely blank in the genocide.

It’s in the DNA of Western uncivilization: racism. Racism is the central pillar of Western imperial cultures. Without it, we have no identity. Western identity is built on intergroup comparison.
