Once again, an outstanding article Karim. It is difficult to imagine that Americans cannot see reflections of themselves in the gratuitous violence inflicted upon the Palestinians: the endless gun violence, the police brutality against black people, the silencing of dissent, the racism and ineluctable rise of white supremacism, the deportations without due process, the audacious duplicity, deceit, gaslighting, vituperation, character assassinations and calumny…the list goes on and on.

Well said. Just a small note: I’d say white supremacism never diminished.

For decades even the left in the illegal occupation have been calling openly for genocide and now they are trying to tar their inability to be brazen barbaric brutes like past Europeans with the false flag of antisemitic racism.

If communication is going to be meaningful, we can’t adopt imperial versions of words. Nobody involved in the illegal occupation is a leftist. Left of Ghengis Khan is not a leftist. When people use the word in relative terms it aborts discussion.

I am not arguing that the left is without flaws. Some socialists are unsavory and nasty, but they don’t support imperial projects.
